Background
Sophie started building her foundations in fashion throughout her school years and went on to study costume construction at the University of South Wales. After working in TV, theatre and film she worked for a short period of time in a bridal shop. She saw a niche the market in Worcester to provide handmade bespoke wedding gowns as well as individual and unique collections and from there she set up Sophie Wynne-Owen Bridal Couture. Since establishing her business in October 2014 with her first bridal collection, she has progressed in to also making occasion, evening and prom wear. In April 2016, Sophie won Worcestershire Young Business Woman of the Year. Her ethos is to ‘design and create to dress beautiful women’. She is now in the process of designing her second collection now her business has grown. Sophie states that is imperative for a designer to understand how to pattern cut and build an item from scratch in order for them to be able to create truly exquisite designs. Sophie Said “When thinking about my new collection, I am influenced by familial historical pieces combined with the freedom that nature brings. The creation of the dresses demonstrates the growth that is found in nature, and the shapes of the dresses highlight the lack of rigidity that is in nature. Using familial historical influences also shows growth through time but also makes the collection unique and personal to me”. www.sophiewynneowen.com
