Background

Graduating from Nottingham Trent with a BA Honours Degree in Fashion Design, Darcie currently works as a Junior Designer for a high street supplier as well as running a creative collaboration & blog (www.koinophobia.co.uk). She designs, creates and customises one off pieces of clothing, one faux fur piece which has become a focal point of her final collection.

Darcie’s design concept is based on the exploration of femininity, with key inspiration taken from girl culture both past a present and iconic girl power influences (a combination of the spice girls, clueless, a lot of pink fluffiness and an innovative use of materials.) Her collection explores female empowerment through sexual references which she has represented through her chosen fabrics and materials: distinctive 3D silicone rubber wording being the unique focal points of her garments.

A stereotypically feminine “pretty pink” colour scheme is used throughout because all doll face gals are supposed to love pink, right? Darcie’s collection pushes the boundaries of contemporary fashion and female culture but still has a girly aesthetic to admire, as well as reflecting the current S/S17 trend of bold feminist statement garments.
